Power & Torque Graph for Universal Joints with Plain Bearings

Correction Factors

Working Angle α 10° 15° 20° 25° 30° 35° 40° 45°
Correction Factor F 1.25 1.00 0.80 0.65 0.55 0.45 0.38 0.30 0.25

Plain Bearing Example 1 : Power of 0.65KW @ 230 rpm with Working angle α of 10°

Extrapolate a vertical line from 230 rpm on the 'X' axis and a horizontal line from 0.65KW on the 'Y' axis to get a point of convergence at point 'P'. By extrapolating a
45° line from point 'P' we get a torque of 27Nm. By selecting the next bold value curve above point 'P' and following it back down to the joint selection figures we can see that the selection corresponds to a size 25 universal joint.

Plain Bearing Example 2 : Power of 0.65KW @ 230 rpm with Working angle α of 30°

With a Correction Factor of 0.45 with a working angle α of 30° we get a power figure of 0.65KW / 0.45 = 1.44KW. Extrapolate a vertical line from 230 rpm on the 'X' axis and a horizontal line from 1.44KW on the 'Y' axis to get a point of convergence at point 'P1'. By extrapolating a
45° line from point 'P1' we get a torque of 60Nm. By selecting the next bold value curve above point 'P' and following it back down to the joint selection figures we can see that the selection corresponds to a size 32 universal joint.

Power & Torque Graph for Universal Joints with Needle Roller Bearings

Correction Factors

Working Angle α 10° 15° 20° 25° 30° 35° 40° 45°

Needle Roller Bearing Example 1 : Power of 5.5KW @ 2300 rpm with Working angle α of 10°

Extrapolate a vertical line from 2300 rpm on the 'X' axis and a horizontal line from 5.5KW on the 'Y' axis to get a point of convergence at point 'P'. By extrapolating a
45° line from point 'P' we get a torque of 23Nm. By selecting the next bold value line above point 'P' and following it back down to the joint selection figures we can see that the selection corresponds to a size 28 universal joint.

Needle Roller Bearing Example 2 : Power of 5.5KW @ 2300 rpm with Working angle α of 25°

With a Correction Factor of 0.70 with a working angle α of 25° we get a power figure of 5.5KW / 0.70 = 7.85KW. Extrapolate a vertical line from 2300 rpm on the 'X' axis and a horizontal line from 7.85KW on the 'Y' axis to get a point of convergence at point 'P1'. By extrapolating a
45° line from point 'P1' we get a torque of 33Nm. By selecting the next bold value line above point 'P' and following it back down to the joint selection figures we can see that the selection corresponds to a size 32 universal joint.
