Profiles and Flights tolerances

The standard pitch to pitch tolerance between profiles is +/-0.5mm. Standard height tolerance is +/- 0.5mm. Improved tolerances available, subject to tooling being available.

Profile thickness ‘s’

The belt flexibility can be affected by the profiles or flights if a fairly thick profile is selected. As a rule, the profile or flight thickness ‘S’ should be as small as possible to perform the required task (the shear strength of a profile or flight is approximately 160 N/cm ). The following table illustrates the relationship between the chosen pulley size and the maximum corresponding profile or flight thickness ‘S’. If the maximum thickness ‘S’ is exceeded, there is a danger of cracking, as shown in the diagram (Fig.1- right).

Profile thickness example

Determining the profile or flight thickness ‘S’ on a T10 BRECO® belt running around a 20 tooth pulley:

  • For profiles or flights positioned over the tooth form, profile or flight thickness ‘S’ <=8mm
  • For profiles or flights positioned over the tooth gap, profile or flight thickness ‘S’ <=3mm
