Belt Backings
TransDev belt backings
Modifying the characteristics of many TransDev timing belts by applying one or more backings and enabling infinite different designs for conveying applications. Specific properties such as high or low coefficient of friction, soft, hard or compressible can all be achieved with a backing.
Using a thick backing affects the flexibility and hence the minimum pulley diameter, but slotting the backing can improve the flexibility. We can bond our backing materials to virtually any base belt for use as conveyor belts, haul-off belts, puller belts, forming belts and nesting belts. Haul off/puller belts are mainly used in the plastics and cable industries to pull extruded profiles. We can currently process belts to a length of 90 metres and to a width of 600mm.
Special materials:
Should you have a requirement for a material with non-standard properties please consult our technical department. There may be a minimum quantity requirement.
Please note:
- Abrasion resistance: the higher the number the better
- Temperature range: also consider temperature range of the base belt
- Stress rating: see graph
- Material colour: subject to change without notice

TransDev machined backings
Precision back, edge, face grinding and pocketing
TransDev can grind any face of a covered belt to precision tolerances. Belts up to 90 metres long and 600mm wide can be processed. Belts can be pocketed as required for component nesting.
Precision sectional profiling
Backings can be cross-profiled or slotted. This can be for stress relief or providing profiles for high precision indexing or positioning.
Lengthways precision profiling
Backings can be ground to any desired profile. Belts with thicker backings can be slotted to relieve stress when using small pulleys.
Tooth removal, holes and perforations
Tooth removal from timing belts is used for providing clearances for mechanically attached profiles or for use as a vacuum groove. Vacuum grooves can have Slip Face bonded to the belt face to reduce the coefficient of friction. Holes and perforations can be machined as required.
